Portable electric heaters are the appliances that are built and designed to heat the rooms and other structures in colder times or colder parts of the world. These are economical, cost-effective, and easily affordable, but can be expensive than portable kerosene or gas heaters.

Although portable electric heaters are generally used for small spaces, they come in different models of varying capabilities and hence can offer the heating solution for a wide range of spaces. One can choose from different brands depending upon one’s specific requirement and budget.

A thermostat built in most of these portable electric heaters functions as a cutoff switch and turn off the heating process once the temperature of the surroundings reaches a set value. Thermostat feature effectively saves from unnecessary heating and thus saves from wasting the electricity. This thermostat feature allows the user to set exactly as to what level the electric heater is to heat the surroundings.



The risk of fire cannot be neglected with portable heaters, including portable electric heaters as many instances of fire being caused by these heaters have been reported. One way to reduce the risk is to directly plug the heater into the electric socket, and avoid the extension cord.

The load that the portable electric heaters put on the circuit is quite high. One should take care not to overload the circuit by plugging something else into the same socket. Unplug the heater when not in use. Keep away the articles like clothes and furniture, which can catch fire. Before using the heater check if there is any damage to the heater, electric cord or the plug. The good quality portable electric heaters are UV listed that one can check while buying the unit.
