An 88 keys keyboard is most famous and it finds wide usage in musical instruments. It is also called piano keyboard. Each key in the instrument is programmed to produce a different note when pressed. Some of the keys when pressed in combination produce different sounds. Usually the keyboard contains small and larger keys to produce unique 12 notes.

White keys on the keyboard are a bit larger when compared with black keys. White keys are also known as white notes whereas black keys are called black notes. The width of white keys is 2.35 cm whereas the width of black keys is 1.37 cm. An interval between the second harmony and first harmony is called octave and comprises 12 keys for maintaining consistency. The octave span for piano keyboards is 16.4 to 16.5 cm.

Electronic keyboards having 88 keys are used by music artists.  A switch is placed under each key in the keyboard. When we press on the key, the switch under the key gets connected to the circuit and produces sound. A matrix system is used to connect 88 keys in the keyboard using wires. In fact the printed circuit board (PCB) has tracks instead of wires for connecting the switches on the keyboard. An integrated circuit in the keyboard is programmed to scan the keys continuously. When we press a key, the corresponding key is pressed and relevant note is produced.  Hence, we hear a sound on pressing a key on the keyboard.

In order to use the piano keyboard, we should understand the sound produced by each key. You may hear a loud sound on pressing the key hardly. If you want a light sound, press the key with less pressure. Hence you can make different sounds for each key by pressing it hardly or lightly. You can make a flute sound or pipe sound by pressing the appropriate keys.

If you are interested in learning the piano, take training from professionals in the music field. Also you need to practice to get familiarized with the sounds produced by each key on the keyboard. An 88 keyboard has a simple layout. It may be difficult to learn in the beginning, but you would feel easy once you practice.

Use both of your hands simultaneously to make different sounds. The instruments fitted with keyboards require finger techniques to press lightly or harder for generating different sounds. Treble chords are located on the right side of your keyboard whereas bass chords are situated on the left side. So, use both of your hands at the same time to generate a different tune. Popular piano keyboard brands include Roland, Casio Privia and Yamaha.
